The Prime Minister of Egypt, in an interview, said the change in the poitical stolus would be a realisation of a long-felt hope. Owing to its geographical position, Egypt was of sucU. importance as to excite the covetousness of other nations. In order to safeguard its integrity they must subrf'st under the aegis of some great Power. Egypt desired the power to deal with its own internal autonomy. The sole nation fulfilling the conditions was Britain, which was powerful enough to protect, and whorio trad'tions assured the realisation of theEgyptian ideal. The Prime Minister advocates that the Legislative Assembly, wheh has hitherto been only consultative, shall be given a deliberative vo'ee in all but foreign affairs, and thus serve an apprentice--ship.in deliberat've powers.
