Mr James McKenzie, of Weber, has been accepted a.s piper to the New Zealand expeditionary force. Mr H. Croad lias been elected chairman of Directors of the Ballance Dairy Company for the ensuing year. The death occurred on Sunday last of Mr G. H. Roach, a very old resident of Hastings, at the age of seven-ty-four years. Mr W. F. Peters, of Mangamaire, Forty-Mile Bush, who has been on a trip to England anl Europe, returned home by the Romuera last week. Cable advice has been received that Captain Harold Williams, a Napier boy, holding a commission in the Dorset Regiment, was wounded in the recent fighting, and has been removed to London. Mr Louis Wixon, formerly of Ma<sterton, met witu a serious accident a few days ago on the road between Ngahauranga and Wellington. He was riding in a motor car, and struck a match to light a cigarette. The match came into contact with the petrol, and the car was soon enveloped in flames. Wixon, who was seated by the driver, jumped out while the car was still in progress, and fell on his head, sustaining a severe concussion, which necessitated his removal to tlie hospital.
