AUSTRIAN CHAMOIS.
Three chamois from the -Austrian Alps'are at present on their way to New Zealand, and they are tliat are likely to" be that, country. It is to hoped that they will be v landed safely and placed in a sanctuary, where their species j may be propagated. There-is a lot' | of country, in New Zealand that • is suited for nothing else but the chamois and* the goat. The' Rimutakas and the Tararua ranges, to the west of Masterton, could be brought . to some profit if they wore stocked with chamois and Angora goate. The skin of the chamois is of great value, and mohair sells at.2s and,3s p@r pound. There is no reason, to our tnixni, why ft profitaljlo industry could not be established In tMs direofion. <lt is to I>e regretted that -such a limited number, of Austrian chamois are available, for- it already* been proved that - our • climate s'tuts j theih. \ ' " /
