MASTERTON RAM FAIR.

THE OKI-'K'IAL REPORT

The Associated Selling .Brokers, comprising A!< <j., Dalgety and Co., Ltd.. N.Z. (.0:1 ti and Mercantile Agency (Jo.. 1.u1.. W. and G. Turnbull and Co.. I,id., Levin and_ Co., Ltd.. and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report as follows: The annua 1 nn: fair conducted under tho au-jii">'• <-'f" the Ma«sterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on the Solway showgrounds on Thursday ae-d Frxlay, a total entrv of 2791 If "nip; passed through tlie nn}2;. The attendance Ui,s satif-fac-tory, buyers from a distance hemp: prominent, including representatives from Auckland and tho South Island. Tho arrangements peculiar to N>lwav, where the whole of the sheep are under cover in the show pens adjoining the sale ring, were most tavourahlv commented on by the Motors, and worked splendidly. ;1 t,cl th< * ram fair committee (Messrs Robert Cooper and W. D. Watson), who tliem, selves are alnJiys conspicuous for tho amount of strenuous work thev put in, had their staff of men well up to the mark, and kept the sale "moving." All circumstances considered, a very satisfactory sale has trt he reported ; hut in several instances 011 both days business at auction dragged. A iiv:r proportion of the total'entry comprised slieep of inferior quality, or eW out of condition. for which then* was a poor demand, while 011 the other hand competition for good sheep was animated, and the bidding at times particularly keen. It was again demonstratod most clearly that terton is 110 place to dispose of second quality sheep. ' Lineohis and Southdowns were disposed of on the first day, and while the inquiry for the former might have, been better, good sheep sold well, and breedei<s appeared satisfied. As was anticipated, Southdowns met a spirited market. A number of very good prices were realised. Towards the end of the sale, however, buyers had filled the'r requirements, and a number of good sheep were turned out unsold. Komneys and all other breeds weie disposed of on the second day. Sliropshires sold well, but no demand existed for English Leicesters, while the same remarks concerning Lincolns applies to Komneys, plenty of competition for good sheep but none for inferior. Appended is the record ox
