CONCILIATION COMMISSIONER TURNED DOWN. THE CHEESE IN FAIR CONDITION. GOOD WORK BY SPECIALS. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Mr P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, to-day placed before the Federation of Labour two-proposals, to clear the way for a settlement of the strike. After consideration, the. Federation was unable to see its way to agree to one of the suggestions, and so declined to accept them. There were one hundred trucks of cheese, all from t'iie factories in the Wellington province awaiting shipment in the Athenic to-day. The fear of deterioration compelled those in charge to load these goods first. Officials of the Dairy Division of the Agricultural Department were on the wharf when the trucks were opened, and a close inspection was made. Seen subsequently by a reporter, Mr D. Cuddie, Chief Daily Commissioner, said Eliat on- the whole the cheese was in good condition, ■■■although it bad suffered from being so long ill the trucksMr J. G. "With such a start as this," said Mr Harknes«, "there would be no fear of the market prospects." It is related that in an hour and a-half 600 crates of cheese wore loaded with one winch. This is about twice as fast as the ordinary wharf labourers have been in the habit of working, and the, cargo was all well stowed.
