Mi' and Mrs Nivens, of "Aunedalo," Temii, are staying at the Club Hotel for a week. Miss Briggs, who has been visiting friends in the Wairarapa, returned to Wellington yesterday. Mrs Harden, who is at present in Wellington, is returning home one day this week. Mrs Hislop and Mrs B. Hislop returned to Wellington yesterday. Misses A. and I. Thomas went to Wellington on Monday. Mr and Mrs Uaniell return from Napier by motor to-day, and are bringing Mrs Hurley, of Napier, with them. The Misses Pilmer went by motor to the Hutt, and are the guests of Mrs Mason. Mrs Guy Williams returned to Masterton from Napier on Saturday. The engagement is announced between Miss Hilda Apperley, Mafeking Villa, Hastings, and Mr Chas. Martin, Christchurch. A wedding of much local interest wae celebrated at Waione township, Akitio County, last Wednesday, when Miss Slose " Cruickshanks, second daughter of Mr and Mrs shanks, was married to Mr Robert Meech, second son of Mr A. Meech, settler, of The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Tobin. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked very charming in a I beautiful dress of cream radianta, \ trimmed with cream silk lace, and carried, a shower bouquet of white 1 flowers. She also wore the bridegroom's gift of a gold bracelet and brooch. M'iss Annie Cruickshauks (sister of the bride). Miss Daisy Meech (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Agnes Malmanche acted as bridesmaids and wore the bridegroom's presents of three </old brooches, Mr Eddie Meech. of ipongaroa, supported the bridegroom as best man. After the ceremony the guests, numbering over one hundred, coming from all.parts of the Akitio district, were received by the bride's parents at a breakfast, which was held in a marquee, in the evening a dance was held in Messrs Herbert Bros' woolslied at Korora. and music was supplied by Misses M. Brenton, Herbert, Weeds and Mr H. Coe. ■ Musical items were eontribut- I ed by Messrs J. Pimm, junr., and Passmore. Mr L. Weavers ably acted as M.O. The large number of handsome presents, including several cheques, testified to the popularity of the happy couple.

. A quiet wedding of interest' to Pongaroa took, place in the Methodist .Church, Pabiatua, on Tuesday, when Mr J. J. Palmer, wheelwright, of Pongaroa, was married to Miss Mary Eddlestone, also of Pongaroa. The na £py couple wore married at an early hour, and started for their new home shortly afterwards. A recep tion, with many expressions of goodwill, was tendered to Mr and Mrs Palmer hy numerous friends in the township.
