His Honour Mr Justice Chapman arrived in Masterton last evening. The Hon. 0. M. Luke, M.L.C., who has been a visitor tfeMasterton during the last few days> returns to Wellington to-day. The. Bishop of Wellington (Dr Sprott) leaves Masterton on his return to the city to-day. Mr J. W. Collins, chief accountant of the Labour Department of Labour, head office Wellington, wason an official visit to-Masterton yest&rdayv He left for Wellington by .the afternoon train. The Ven. Archdeacon Fancourt is at present in Masterton. He will conduct the special service in Sc. thew's Church this evening. The death has occurred in Tasmania of Brigadier Holdaway, of the Salvation Army. The deceased, who was a native of Nelson, had worked for years among the Maoris of New Zealand, and was a fluent Maori linguist. He was well-known and highly respected in Masterton. Mr Cha's. Holdaway, formerly of this town but now of Ballance, was a relative of the deceased.

The Rev. J. K. Archer, of Napier, has accepted a call to the Invercargill Baptist Church, and will leave for his new charge next month.

A Press Association telegram from Dunedin states that Mr T. G. Delcacy, a very old resident, died on Saturday at the.age of 90 years. He came out to Otago in 1852, and was the first Mayor of West Harbour, filling that office several times. The death is reported from Dunedin of Captain R. C. Patterson, a retired master mariner, at the age of 82 years. Mr Ernest Hiley, the new General Manager of Railways, was a passenger by the steamer Niagara, which arrived" at Auckland last night from Vancoiiver.

.Captain William Harris'died at Gisborne on Wednesday last" at the age of 77 years. Deceased was born in 1836, at Fishguard, South Wales, and is survived by three daughters and one son. As a seafarer in NewZealand waters and more particularly on the East Coast, says the Poverty Bay Herald, deceased was a wellknown and popular figure. He retired to a life ashore some 15 years ago. The death occurred on Saturday evening at Ross of Mr John Hunt ■Carrie, aged 72. Deceased arrived at Ross in 1865, and had resided there since, filling many public positions, including that of Mayor of Ross on several occasions. He leaves*a grownup family.

Three deaths occurred at Gore on Sunday, all being well-known residents.* Rev. J. M. Davidson, aged 84, was a well-known Presbyterian minister in Otago. During the last eleven years he lived in retirement in Gore. He was the first moderator of tho Mataura presbytery, and also filled the position of moderator of the Otago Synod about 25 years ago. AVm. Johnston, aged 80 years, was 'a well-known resident during the past 32 years. He arrived in the colony in 1869. Mrs Paterson, wife of Mr J. A. Paterson, baker, also passed away the same day after a lingering illness, aged 43. The death occurred at Wellington on Saturday, after a short illness, of Mr William Brunskill, secretary of the Wellington Bowling Club. The deceased was well-known and highly respected in the Wairarapa.
