HOSPITAL PATIENTS' FEES.

The Inspector-General of Hospitals j has sent a circular, letter to the vaxi- i ous Hospital Boards in the Domin- I ion, suggesting that <an uniform ■ charge of £3 3s per week be made for patients receiving treatment in the hospitals. He also suggests that the Boards give rebates where they think necessary. We agree with Dr. Valintine that those who are in affluent circumstances should pay fl reasonable sum for treatment. We do not think it desirable, however, that an uniform fee of £3 3s should be fixed, and that a system- of rebates should be adopted. The latter system would place members of the Board as well as patients' in an undesirable position. We believe that the sliding scale at present adopted at the hospitals in the Wairarapa gives satisfaction, and we are pleased to see that the Committee controlling the institution does not , intend departing from it. . - •
