ANNUAL TOURNAMENT
The' Wa Irani pa Hockey Association's annual eleven-apirt? tourney for the "McGruer Cup" was held at Lansdowne yesterday. There was an attendance of about 300 persons, who evinced great interest in th-3 various games, which were always keenly contested.. The Carterton team were the ultimate "winners, and. sire to be .congratulated on their success, as all their displays were particularly good. * The results of the various games /are as follow : . A SECTION. Post and Telegraph (Masterton 1 * beat 'Kuahine /Dannevirke); P. and T. beat Excelsior; Excelsior beat' Ruahino. Winners of Section; P. and'T. B SECTION. • Carterton beat St. Matthews; Metropolitan (Wellington) beat St. Matthews; Carterton defeated Metropolitan. Winners of Section: Carterton. In the final Carterton beat Post and Telegraph by 3 goals to nil. This was an exciting and strenuous game from start to finish, but Carterton excelled in the "shooting"department. Messrs Rosson, Gray. Fisher, Bannin and Rue officiated as referees in a eapable manner.
