TARIFF REFORM
SPEECH BY MR BOXAR LAW. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) LONDON, February 8. Mr Bonar Law, speaking at a Unionist dinner, said the moment the Unionists were entrusted with power, they would be able, without food duties, to give the Dominions precisely what they asked for at the Imperial Conferences, namely, preference on the existing duties. It it were impossible to have a preferential system. which would help the consolidation of the Eimpiro without food duties, then they would endeavour to carry the latter, but only after submitting it to the people, and convincing them that it would be an advantage to both the Empire and the United Kingdom.
