THE SPOKEN LETTER.
A. certain Scottish maiden who bad been brought to New Zealand -when a wee baby, grew up in Masterton to be a beautiful young lady of eighteen, with a fine soprano voice. Her fond grandmother in Scotland, na<tu<rally deeply interested in her progress, had been told by letter of her learning to sing. A. photograph of the fair maid of eighteen had been sent to thi' grandmother of eighty, so with that and the letters back and forth, the two felt pretty well acquainted and, indeed, an affectionate intimacy existed between them. Xou\ the grandmother in Scotland was most anxious to hear her dear bonnie lassie sing, and Science, .the- modern fairy, granted her wish in the twentiethcentury way. 'lnstead of making a journey to Scotland. Miss -simply walked into TJie Talkeries in Masterton, and sang her smugs,into a Phonograph, and the 'Record was then carefully packed and mailed to Scotland!, where the grandmother placed it on her Phonograph and hoard each song just as it had been sung weeks before! You can imagine how delighted she was. Anyone can send "spoken letters" in the same way.
