THE LABOUR LAWS.
During the hearing of an alleged breach of an industrial award at Auckland, Mr C. C. Kettle, S.M.. said: "It seems very hard if a man had orders to fulfil, and his employees 'are willing to work longer hours for extra pay-, that they cannot do so; but the law must, be • maintained. If the law is bad, it .should but a man mugs not defy it." That tho law is wretchedly bad in this connection is known to every employer of labour. The restrictions placed upon trades by the Arbitration Court are little short of intolerable. The time will come when the workers will realise that by hampering industry they are wrecking their own prospects. Until that time arrives, employers have apparently to grin amT bear the harrassing awards of tho Court.
