THE STRIKE SETTLED.
The tramway strike has been settled. Some will say that it was due to the mediation of the Prime Minister. Perhaps.it was—perhaps it was inot. At anyrate, the addition of .a few words indicating that the,, men •had asked for Inspector Fuller's transfer (a fact of which, everybody was aware) settled the whole thing. The men wijl resume, and Inspector ■Fuller will no longer annoy them. JBut how long will it be before exception is taken to some other Inspector? Just so long, one may .assume, .as the men think proper. There is mo use blinking the fact that, at the present time ,the employees are the (masters of the situation. The mere •fact of insisting upon the transfer of (Inspector Fuller being "at their request" shows that when a Request is made the men are determined that, -rightly or wrongly, it-shall be respected. How many citizens are there who will accept" the position of Councilor, knowing that they are completely under the thumb of their employees?
