HALLEY'S COMET.

The following tabla showing the. | relative movements of Hallsy's Com- ' et and the sun has -been compiled, says the "Hawke'a Bay Herald," to ailow the interested observer toobtain the maximum number of observations with the least possible inconvenience. Until the co:::et drawa nearer there will be Utile chance of seeing it during the hour preceding sunrise. The figures refer to the head of the comet. The tail, being directed away fronj the sun, will, of course, be first above the horizon; and during the week preceding the transit a part of it will bo visible two, three, or even six hours before the head. At 3 o'clock on the afternoon on April 20th, the comet will have reached its nearest to the sun, and will begin again its long journey into space. A month later it will pass within fifteen million mileg of the \ earth. Venus, bright as she is at present in the morning sky, is yet* some sixty million miles from us. j The head of the comet will pass . across the disc of the sun on May | 19th. Should its course coincide with a diameter of the disc, it would tlse one hour to complete the transit. Up to this time the comet will be visible ! in the morning sky, but afterwardsonly in the evening, when, -from being a bright, conspicuous object, it will melt away, as every day will put a million miles at least between us. ■ * \
