TE WHARAU NOTES.
Own Correspondent. Thursday. The weather thruughout the district; haa Been good though cold during the past week. To-day a change set in, and some cold wet winds from the north-east are being experienced. Poisoning operation?, wh'ch have been guing on for. the past three month 3, are now completed, consequently a good number of men in the district are out of work. Mr George Simpson, who has been at the head of several poisoning gangs, has left for the Kotorua district, where he contemplates taking up land. Deer stalkers in this district express the opinion that there are more deer in the surrounding district than ever previously, but very few good heads. There have been several 11 and 12 "pointers" shot, but up to the present there have been no exceptional "heads" procured. The Rifle Club hold a "snoot" for medala on Saturday, when a large number of riflemen are expected to be present. Local residents are expecting the Rifle Club to wind up the season with a socal and dance, the prospect < f which is already bsing rnujh anticipated. Mr and Mrs Hugh Douglas-, late of Opaki. arj at present visiting in the district.
Mr and Mrs T. Barrer, of Wellington, who have been residing in the district for the past few months, have now left for the Empire City. Mr A. lorns, of Masterton, has oeen spending a few days in Te Wharau, and enjoyed some shooting. Mr J. Hughes, of Te Wharau, who has been spending his annual holiday in Wellington, returned on Saturday,
