' (Own Correspondent.) Thursday. A gale raged here to-day, followed by soma heavy rain. It made outside employment impossible, and at the s)u:hirn end of the town a telephone post was blown down opposite the residence of Mr H. Huntley. A portion of the fence surrounrinig Mr W. Moore's property was lowered, and in lAher pans of the township fences suffered somewhat. Towards the afternoon the gala abated, much to t.\e relief of all.

Mrs Rains, of this town, is at preaent on a holiday visit to Giaborne. The Kev. and Mrs Standage arrived here this rooming, to take chatge of the South Wairarapa Methodist Circuit. They were welcomed iii the evening at a tea meeting by the congregation.

A meeting of the general committee of the South Wairarapa Poultry Association takes tomorrow afternoon, when a committee will be appointed to revise the programme for the July show.

It was decided at a spceial meeting of the Borough Council last evening that his Worship the Mayor Mr A. Armstrong, on behalf of the Council and burgesses, present an address to bis Excellency the Governor on the occasion of bis farewell visit to the Wairarapa on Wednesday next, Mr W. C. Buchanan M.P. and some prominent citizens are to be invited to attend, and the matter of arranging a guard of honour with the Territorials and School Cadets was left to the Mayor to arrange.

A meeting of the Tradesmen's Association wan held last evening, when the rules governing the control of the affair were finally approved. Those present, representing fourteen businesses, signed the membership roll, a-d the secretary was authorised to "canvass the other business "people to persuade them to become members.

Mr L. H\ Smart, of this town, has been appointed an auditor under | the" Friendly Societies' Act. Bro. J. Fecsham, N.G , presided at the ordinary meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., last evening, when the business was of a routine character. It was decided to inquire whether the lodge surgeon was aware that a brother in receipt of sick pay was following his employment, and to ascertain whether he had been granted permission to do light work. A card tourney between the married and single members fol ■■ lowed, the benedicts winning by four to one. A similar tourney will take place at the next meeting. Receipts for the meeting were £ll 4s 6d, and disbursements £2l 6s 7d. The installation of Bro. T. J. Rathbone as W.M. of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge will eventuate on April 28th. The many friends of Mr and Mrs P. Gooper, uf Gladstone, will deeply sympathise with them in the loss of their infant son, James Elliott, which occurred this morning at Nurse Camnethan Nursing Home. The funeral will leave the Home to-morrow, at 11 a.m., for the Glareville Cemetery.
