TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland.") The weights for the Wairarapa Hunt Club meeting, to be held on Thursday next, should be followed by satisfactory fields of strarters. ißecent fair performers have been well .looked after by the weight adjuster, but of course his handicapping of these may be justified on the day. The Taratahi course |is an good order this winter, and as great interest is being evinced in the fixture it is sure to be a successful one. At yesterday morning a fair number of horses put in satisfactory work. Consequent on the J rains this week the grass track was! heavy, but dried considerably during the day. .Kuranui and Retinue put in a mile at a good Btrong pace, and finished well. The San Fran-Zisca filly and No Trumps were associated in a five furlongs run, and the .latter appeared ;.to act to best advantage in the heavy going. Moloch, Aberration, First Consol, Merrie Rose, Lucretius, Over Rate, Merrie England filiy.Gawain, Matara, Haka, jMerriwee filly, Pukewhi, Gaelic, j San Julie. Campaign, Kiltie Lass and Skye were.allotted slow medium I work.

F. Cress arrived back from Hawke's Bay on Thursday night. He had been associated with J. Cameron's team, tne principal members of which have just been taken over to Ausrtalia. H. Cairns, who is to ride Tulmut and Osiris in their Australian engagemens, left Wellington yesterday by the Warrimoo. Mr W. E. Bidwill's Provocation has b«en.doing really good work on the Rototawai track's, and leaves Wellingon for .Sydney on Friday next, in the Manuka. Tribulation, recently atrained a rnpscle in his hind leg, aKd will therefore not be taken over with Provocation. As the colt has grown very considerably of late, Tribulation may not be raced until about January. Sir George Clifford has taken a ,leas*e of Gravitation, by Birkenhead—Stepfeldt, for the season, for stud purposes, and has sent Brave Heart, sister to Fleetfoot, on a visit to Elevation. Mr Bidwill's two-year-old, Inspection, cot into trouble a few weeks ago by rolling in a heap of hot ;ashes in a paddock. He is recovering slowly from the effects of the burns. Ihe weights for this year's New Zealand Cup have been compiled by Mr. E. Henryfi, on a more 'lighter scale than usuaL All Red heads the list with«9st 41b, which is a >few pounds less than the starting point in previous years. This is as at should be, however, for the top weight in a race of this kind seldom prevails. Bobrikoff is fairly placed with Bst 131b, and others among the lighter weights that appear to be equitably treated are Zimmerman

Bst 121b, Master Soult Bst 81b, and Tangimoana Bst lib Were Cali fornia perfectly sound he would be considered the pick of the handicap with Bst 61b. Sir Prize 7st 91b, a Wang&nui Cup winner, reads well, and Heorthen 7st 41b, Grard Slam 7st 21b, Sandstream 6st lllD, Lady Lucy 6st 101b, Cymbriform 6st 91b. are among the best of the lower, division, and will have plenty of fanciers.
