ALLEGED GROSS CRUELTY.

It has been reported that certain individuals in the have treated some rabbits v»ith nothing lesd than fiendish cruelty, viz., skinning them alive to see (so it is said) how far they would run without their skins. The alleged facts have been reported to the local branch ot the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and we trust that no stone will be left unturned to bring the miscreants to justice. In a recent issue we printed a public spirited letter frjm Mr Charles Cross,, in which that gentleman offered to donate £1 towards the cost of a prosecution. We feel sure that there_are many residents in both town and country who would willingly subscribe to assist the prefer - ring oi a charge, if it is lack of funds that is hindering the laying of an information. If the reported facts are true wc trust that the Society will succeed in securing the conviction of the offenders, and the infliction of substantial and richly deserved punishment.
