It is stated that Sir Joseph Ward will leave for England on the 37th or 18th inst. Another of Wanganui's old residents passed away on Wednesday in the person of M r John Titter, of Spnngvale. Mr litter was an old colonist, and took his part in the Maori war. Mr J. O'Meara, who has been for several years the popular landlord of the Occidental Hotel, has purchased the lease of the Manchester Hotel, Feilding, will take possession on July 21st next. During their residence in Masterton Mr and Mrs O'Meara have interested themselves in all local -sports, of which they have been generous supporters. Mr E. Satchell, for many years master o? the Granity (Westport) School, died on Tuesday last. The late Mr Satchell was a brother of the late Dr. Satchell. who was a resident of Palmerston North in the early days. He was also a brother-in-law of Miss M. Watson, of Palmerston North.

The following appointments by the Wellington Education Board are announced; —Karori, assistant teacher, Mr A. Brockett, of Mangatainoka; Tausru, sole teacher, Mr E. Brockett, of Mount Cook Boys', on transfer; Martinborough, assistant teacher, Miss C. Gray, of Mauriceville West. Mr John Yarr, who for some years past has been mauaging clerk for Mr A. R. Bunny, Crown Prosecutor, has accepted a similar position with Mr B. J. Dolan, at Napier. As an outspoken Borough Councillor, Mr Yarr has figured prominently in Municipal affairs. His departure from Masterton will be regretted by many friends who will wish him every success in his new sphere of duties. Mr Yarr and family will leave for Napier at an early date.
