THE SACKVILLE TITLE.

CHARGE OF FALSIFICATION OF RECORDS. EVIDENCE FOR THE PROSECUTION. Received March 3, 8.50 p.m. MADRID, March 3. The case bearing directly on the question of the succes.ion to the Sackville tide and estates—in that it deals with the of the claimant, Mr Ernest Henry Sack-ville-West, son of the late Lord Sackville—was continued yesterday, in Madrid. The other claimant, Major Lionel Edward Sackville-West, declares that Ernest Sackville West is illegitimate.

In connection wiih this case three men—Sanchez (clerk of the Church of San Milan, Mad/id), Rof-hon, an.l Anton—are charged jwith having falsified the record of the marriage of a ballet dancer, Papita Duran de Ortega, with Gabriel Oliva, contracted in 1851. If the record is established, Ernest Henry SackvilleWest, as the son of the dancer-f uran and the late Lord Sackville, is illegitimate. The prosecution suggests that Rophon, a nephew of Duran, tampered with the church register about 1900, after the claim of Ernest Henry Sackville-West, the son of Duran, had been lodged. It is alleged that the names were altered, making the entry not to refer to the late Lord Sackville. Giving evidence yesterday Lanquin, a French interpreter, once employed by Ernest Sackville-West, but now in Major Lionel SackvilldWest's employ, testified that Ernest Sackville-West gave Rophon 4.0U0 pesetas for falsifying the register.
