BOROUGH LOAN POLLS.

. BOTH PROPOSALS REJECTED. There was not a groat deal of interest shown by ratepayers in the poll taken by the Borough Council in connection with the proposal to borrow £40,000 for drainage extension, and loan conversion purposes, and ,£7,500 tor the purchase of the Dixon street Showgrounds. By noon barely 100 ratepayers had recorded their votes, and when the poll closed 553 votes out of 1,444 on the roll had been recorded. There were only two booths, the Drill Hall and Kuripuni Fire Brigade Station. The poll closed at 7 p.m., «md the result was a"nouncedby the Returning Officer (Mr W. T.Mansfield, Acting Town Cleric), at 7.45. The proposals were both rejected, the drainage loan by the narrow margin of 17 votes, and the Showground's proposal by 74 vot;s.
