WAIRARAPA DISTRICT HOSPITAL BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board was held in the Masterton County offices, yesterday morning. There were present:—Messrs E. G. Eton (chairman}, W. Fisher, D. Crewe, M. J. Ist last to the present date was as follows: Ordinary maintenance— Receipts, £2,519 15s Sd; expenditure, £2,063 8s; cr. balance, £456 7s Sd. Infectious diseases—Receipts, £2,352 14s sd; expenditure, £2,238 7s 4cl; cr. balance, £ll4 7s Id. Tutal balance in bank at date, £570 14s yd. The statement of assets and liabilities up till March nest show.* an excess of assets over liabilities in the maintenance account of £B3 2s 7d; in the infectious diseases account of £879 5s 2d. The action of the chairman in arranging with Mr D. Dobson, C.E., to supervise the completion of the drainage at the new. infectious dis eases hospital at Masterton was approved. A letter was received from Dr. Valintine, inspector general of hospitals, stating the expenditure of £1,200 on the iniectious diseases ward at Pahiatua was unnecessary and extravagant, considering that adequate accommodation could have been provided for half that amount. The members expressed surprise at the letter, which it was decided to "receive." The board resolved to consent to the Pahiatua Hospital Trustees arranging with their bankers for an overdraft not exceeding £250, on the understanding that all liability in respect of such overdraft I shall be discharged out of the allocation to that hospital for the current year. It was resolved to make application to the chief health officer for his consent|to the trustees of the separate infectious diseases hospitals at Masterton, Pahiatua and Grey town having charge of the respective institutiond. It was stated that the application, which was made under section . 3 of the Public Health Act Amendment Act, 1907, would, if granted, relieve the board of the management of the separate hospitals. The date for the statutory meeting was fixed for March 25th, 1908, at 10.30 a.m. Accounts amounting to £386 19s 9d were passed for payment.
