AN INCORRIGIBLE YOUTH.

CHARGED WITH ROBBERY.

AUCKLAND, November 2.

William Crombie, the youth of sixteen who on the previous day had been arrested on charges of horsestealing and attempted robbery under arms, was brought before the S. M. Court torday. The boy blinked sheepishly in the dock, when the charges were read, and murmured in a very small vo i- ce that he had nothing to say. It was stated that Crombie's parents regarded him as incorrigible, and would have nothing to do with him.

Accused was remanded till Wednesday.

Tohungaism is said to be rife at. Moutuiti, a few miles from here. Several deaths are reported as the result of the treatment. Two infants,, suffeiing from influenza, were, it is alleged, dipped in cold water. One died on Thursday night;-the other lies in a precarious condition. A leading native has entered a vigorous protest, and this morning communicated with the police. The followers of the two tohungas this morning removed the dead body of the child and the living one to another pah a few miles away. The police and a medical man will visit the locality this afternoon.

St. John Ambulance Society, yesterday, made collections throughout the city. A large number of ladies were posted at various corners of the most frequented streets from early morning till evening. Over £309 was collected, exclusive of some small returns to come in. In addition to this the Association's funds will benefit to the extent of £SOO by a bequest undar the will of the late Mr T. H. Macmeanen, of Terawhiti. CHRISTCHURCH, Novmber 3. The Ambulance Saturday collection, yesterday, realised a total of £262 2s 6d. This does not include the amount collected at Sumner and by members of the tramway corps, nor by those who took lists. DEATH OF MR HARRY DRUMMOND. RESULT OF CRICKET ACCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 3. Mr Harry Drummond, who injured himself internally through colliding with a seat in the Nairn Street Reserve while plaving cricket with the Boys' Institute Club, of which he was president, died in Nurse Dixon's private hospital yeslerday. The accident occurred three weeks ago. Mr Drummond underwent an operation soon after his admission to the hospital, and he was doing splendidly until yesterday morning, when his condition changed for the worse. The deceased was a son of Mr Peter Drummond, of Willis Street, and was born in Wellington. His age was about 32, and he has left a widow and child. He was a painter by trade. For some years he had taken an interest in philanthropic work, and was very closely identified with the affairs of the Boys' Institute. He was exceedingly popular with the lads, and his services were greatly valued by the other officers of the Institue.
