AN INTERESTING CEREMONY

__—* Our Carterton correspondent writes under yesterday's date:—The induction of the Rev. Lawrence Thompson, M.A., to the charge of St.. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carterton, took* place to-night. There was a large assemblage to witness the ceremony including members of the congregation of Knox Church, Masterton. The proceedings were opened by a. hymn by the choir and congregation, and the lessons were read and a sermon preached by the Rev. IngHs of the Khandallah Church, Wellington. The sermon was of a very impressive character, touching on the life of Joseph, and his devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. The speaker appealed to the congregation to be firm in the faith and teaching of their minister about to be inducted. The Rev. Jas. McCaw, of Martinborough, acting-moderator to the Presbytery, performed the induction ceremony, and extended to the Rev. Mr Thompson the right hand of fellowship. He then addressed the newly inducted minister, and hoped that "in his new sphere of duty he would meet with great success, and that his work amongst the Carterton Congregation would be a pleasure to him. Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the congregation at the close of the proceedings. The visiting clergymen present were:—The Revs. J. McCaw (Maryborough), J. A-. Brown (Greytown), A. T. Thompson (Masterton) and Inglis (Khandallah).
