The football match -between*the New Zealand team and St. Helens was won by the former by 24 points (three goals and six tries) to 5 (a goal and a try). '.'.'■. Play in the first half wa3 fairly even, but afterwards the visitors outclassed their opponents. The St. Helens team occupied the fourteenth position in the Northern Union League's table during season 1905-6, with the following record :—Matches played 30, won 16, lost 13, drawn 1; scores for, 35 goals 58 tries, total points 244; scores against, 35 goals 49 tries, total points 217; League points obtained .33;. percentage 55.000. St. Helens were runners-up for the cup in 1897, being defeated by Batley (Yorkshire). The following table shows tho ' matches played by the New Zealanders and the scores to date.
