MELANESIAN MISSION.
SALE OF WORK. The annual sale of work in aid of the Melanesian Mission Fund was held in St. Matthew's Schoolroom, yesterday afternoon and evening, and was a decided success. The room presented a very attractive appearance. A large number of stalls were tastefully arranged on either side, and each was laden with a variety of articles from produce and flowers to articles of drapery. The stalls were in charge of the following:—Fancy work, Mesdames ' Chennells, Hand-Newton, Lamb, and Misses Pearco, Foder, Olliver and Hooker; cakes, Misses Eila Vallance, Mace, D. Bennett and N. Bennett: dolls, Misses M. Wags, Byrne, and R. Hooper; lollies, Misses K. Robins, McNair, T. Jackson and R. Keeble; flowers, Mrs Johnson, Misses Gawith (4), Ross, Gower, Sellar and Drummond; produce, Misses G. Dixon, E. and M. Townsend and H. Robins; jumble stall, Mrs S. Earee, Misses Moore and Holmwood; bran tubs, Misses La Roche, E. Rees, E. Jepson and O. Ross; fishponds, Misses J. Sellar, G. Rawson, 11. Fuller and other members of Miss G. Brown's class. \
The attendance throughout the afternoon and evening was large, and the stallholders were kept busy. Over £3O was taken altogether, but there are several amounts outstanding yet, and it is expected that there will be a considerable sum available for the Mission Fund.
The proceedings were enlivened by an enjoyable musical programme, the contributors to which were Misses A. Jones, Waddington. Sweetman, Messrs S. Earee, Nixon, J. Candy and Master L. von Itiisenberg. The fortune-telling tents were in charge of Misses A. Jackson and A. Brown, and afternoon and evening tea was dispensed by an energetic committee of ladies, consisting of Mesdames Fannin, McNair, Snelgrove and Misses Fannin and M. Fuller. A word of praise is also due to Messrs A. P. Fielding and R. Hatch and Misses Y. Jackson and K. Holloway for,.the assistance they rendered m various ways.
