MAURICEVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) On the 26th instant our local bachelors entertained the public-at a ball. About forty-five couples assembled, and enjoyed themselves till the small hours of the morning. The arrangements made by the bachelors' committee were very good. Mr M. McKenzie officiated at the piano. On Saturday the Kaipororo footballers met the local team. The game resulted in a draw —three points each. The Mauricevilie schoolboys have undertaken a great task, viz., to drain their playground. They have opened several trenches and as an experiment have boxed a chain with willow supports two inches thick. These they overlaid with la ced willow twigs and then covered the lot in.
