Wednesday. , The daring the last few • days baa'been »all tbat, a dairyman could desire. Ibe supply of milk has greatly increased at the Nire* aha Factory. At a the Nireaha Re- ' dreatiou (.around Cummittee 'held recently, the work of clearing the ground wae'reported to be progessiug satsfaotorily. A few subscriptions were received, and by support •promised to ,thfe Committee for the > coming social'on'tbe Bth inst., they hope to have enough money to defray all expenses connected with 'the grouud. There is some* talk' of an Atbletio Sooiety being foimed here. Seeing that we are to have a fine sports ground we all hope that such a Booiety will be formed. The Nireaha Co operative Hairy Company have despatched four cases of chetse to the Obristcburch Exbib ition. This week 70 caseß of <cLefß9 were sent from Nireaha to the Old Country. In a dairying community like this one hears a great deal nf discussion regarding us a fuod for calves. We may have many ideas about wney for that purpose but it is a fact that we have in our midst a 2-year-old draught horse which has practically been brought up on whey. As a foal he was fed for a month or two on cows milk and be was ullowerl to run on the road. "One day be'dis covered the whey tank at the rear of the Factory, and last season you could have seen the bprse standing along side the Factory and as toon as he heard the rush of the wb6y about one o'clock leaving the mating roomj he would scamper down to the tank and partake of tbe whey. A ; week or so ago he pot in his first appearance for this sen he now has his drink of whey daily. I bear the directors of the Factory are going to prohibit him shortly as he Is proving a nuisance to settlers who drive restive horses to the factory. Owing to tiie rain on Monday ■ night tbe meeting of the Nirea'ba branch of' the Farmers* Union ►meeting was poitpon«d.
