THE MINING TROUBLE.
Received September 14, 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, September 14. The resolutions of the Employees' Federation regarding the Maitlaud mining trouble are being generally adopted by tbe mining lodges. It is understood that negotiations are proceeding with western and southern miners for support in the event of the northern minors coming out. Already there is considerable anxiety at Broken Hill] and Melbourne at the prospect of a strike at Broken Hill. The supply of oual on hand is suffiuiout to keep the mines going for two mouths at the outside. DEVELOPMENTS ANXIOUSLY AWAITED. Received September 15, 12.59 a.m. SYDNEY, September 14. Affairs at Newcastle are quiet, and developments are anxiously awaited. The miners' lodges both in the Newcastle and Maitland distriot" overwhelmingly adopted tbe recommendations ot the Committee of Management. This means a general strike unless a sulution of the difficulty is found at to-morrow's conference. The outlook for a compromise is considered anythiug but hopeful. TASMANIA'S BUDGET. Reoeived September 14, 10.30 a,m. HO BART, September 14. The Treasurer delivered his Budget I last night. The surplus on the year's transactions was £47,452, and he estimated the surplus next year at £16,888, provided the penny postage soheme is not carried. He condemned tbe present financial irresponsibility of the Federal Government, and commended the transfer of the whole of tua publio debt to the Commonwealth. | GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. Reoeived September 15, 1.3 a.m. MELBOURNE, Sept. 14. The Golf Championship of Victoria was won by Riddell. NORFOLK ISLAND. Received September 15, 1.3 a.m. MELBOURNE, Sept. 14. Mr A. Deakin, Speaker in the ' House of Representatives, stated that Norfolk Island would not be taken over by the Commonwealth this -session.
