HUNT CLUB MEET AT TENUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent). TENUI, Monday. A meet of the Wairarapa Hunt dab took place on Saturday at Mr F. W. Groves, Terrace Farm, which is an ideal hunting ground. Tne weather was beautifully fine, but a •fcitterly cold wind was blowing. The gathering was a record one in every respect. The jumps were high and diffloult to negotiate. One log fence earned the Pathedict was & feet b inches high, while the two water jumps were 23 feet wide, and 12 feet deep with a 3 feet brush fenoe on tbe take o£f side, one of these water jumps was oalled the 'grave yard.' The baying of the hounds had the usual effect of working people

up into a state of eoxitement. A shrill cry from tbe pack and the cracking of whips, warned the anxious crowd of spectators that the run had started. Over the fence on the hill came the huntsmen, down the flat on to the water jump. Here tbe fun started in real earnest, Mr A. Ohongs mount. _ disappeared froeu *iew. An accident was only averted by Gun Metal taking a tremendous jump and clearing the fallen rider. Mr Cboug had only just got his horse out when there was another splash as Messrs J. Oollerton and E. Sohofleld went out of sight. On coming to the sur faoe the former cooly remarked, "Hallo, sohofleld, how did you get here?" "Same way as you!" was the short reply, "but 1 say isn't it cold." \ cry came from the crowd "get out of that, there aie some other felloes wanting a bath." This way true for as fast as one lot got out others were in and every few minutesa a horses head would appear above water. J3y this time the huntsman was a mile ahead with only one whip and tbe Master in attendance, the res!: woie busily engaged catching riderelas horses for their comrades. As soon as men and horses got together again, it was a race to oatch ap to the hounds. Tbe paae was responsible for a rather serious accident, lallyho ran away carrying his head low down, crashed into an 8 wire fence that had wirenettine on it. The rider, Mr L. Meredith was thrown to tbe ground and rendered unoonscious for a while. The first, run ended up at the homestead of Mr and Mrs P. W. Groves. The whole of the visitors were hospitablly entertained al afternoon tea. Mr W. H. Booth in thanking the host and hostess made special mention of the kindness they had received from Mr and Mrs 'Groves who had allowed the whole run 1.0 take place on [jtbeir property. After liearty obeers had been given for Mr and Mrs Groves, the hounds were put on the trail again. At the first fence the mounts of Messrs Brooku, Dickens, Sohofleld, Collerton and Bell turned "turtle." The next feuoe proved too much for the horses ridden by Messrs Millar, Smith, Lang and Johnston. At the next fence Messrs Oollerton, Brooks, Stevens, Belliss pame to grief again. All went well then till tbe water jump was reached, Mr A. Ohong again ducking owing to his mount ooming to grief. It was an amusing sight to see tbe huntsmen after the run.
