PLACEMENT SCHEME.

EXTENDED TO UPPER HUTT AND EASTBOURNE. Already highly successful in Petone i and Lower Hutt, the Government place- ' ment scheme has been extended in include Upper Hutt and Eastbourne, and 1 sg-istrations are now being taken in those districts. At each place the postmaster- is the ! certifying- officer and registration cards v.-ill be filled in in duplicate, one card being kept at the office of enrolment ■ and 112 other forwarded to the office-at ; Petone, in the case of Eastbourne, and to Lower Hutt in the case of Upper I Hutt. In addition the placement officer, | Mr. K. D. Whelan, will visit both Upper Hutt and Eastbourne regularly, and it ! is hoped that a big improvement will | be made in the unemployment position j ■ in these districts. I At present the registrations total 1269. Of these Petone's share is 380, I Lower Hutt's 584, Upper Hutt's 220, and Eastbourne's 80. By Ihe new scheme unemployed in Eastbourne and Upper Hutt will have the same facilities for gaining places in industry as those in Petone and Lower Hutt, and employers will benefit also, since they will have a -wider selection of prospective employees to choose ° from.
