UPPER HUTT SUB-CENTRE OF THE N.Z. RED CROSS SOCIETY. 13th ANNUAL REPORT, 1935-36. At the Annual Meeting- held recently the following- reports were presented showing the activities in the district. During the year eight committee meetings and four meeting-s of the Relief Committee were held and were well attended, the members taking a keen interest in all the business transacted. The annual concert was held in September at the Majestic Theatre when the members of the Wellington Male Voice Choir gave a very fine programme. It was unfortunate this was poorly attended as the proceeds were in aid of the General Fund and the District Nurse Fund, each deserving of more public support. The net proceeds were £6 7s. 9d. We are indebted to the choir for their assistance and to Mr. R. Heald for the free use of the theatre. Two dances were held by the students for the raising of funds for team work, and they were both successful. The annual Social and Presentation of Awards was held in February and was a most enjoyable function. Dr. A. Gillies, President Wellington Centre, who presented the certificates, and Major Abel, Chairman Dominion Executive, were both present. A concert programme arranged by Miss PI. Golder was well received and supper and dancing concluded a pleasant evening. Nursing classes were held as usual with a good attendance, and six first-year and four second-year students qualified for a certificate at the examination held in July. A nursing team went to Hawera to compete for the Collins Cup, but was not successful in winning- the trophy. The first aid classes were attended by 15 students, 11 sitting for the examination and gaining certificates, whilst one student gained a bar to the medallion. A team entered the competition for the Shirtcliffe Rose Bowl held in Wellington, but was not successful. At the beginning of this year our Vice-President, Mrs. Kemp, on being called urgently to England, was granted leave of absence. She will be greatly missed at the meetings and classes. On leaving, the class secretary, Mrs. Gibbs, presented her with a book from the classes as a token of esteem and good wishes. We are fortunate in securing the services of Nurse Hodder, District Nurse, to supervise the nursing classes during Mrs. Kemp's absence and we are grateful for her assistance. The biennial garden fete was held in February in the school grounds, and was opened by Lady Shirtcliffe. This was not as successful as on previous occasions, the net proceeds being £ll 3s. Id. We are grateful to the School Com-
