GERMANY'S LAST COLONY.
German Kast Africa, tbe capital of trliich is now in the British hands, was llie largest and most important of Germany's colonial possessions. Covering an area »f ."iS4,OoOs(|uaie miles, it is nearly twice as big as flic German Empire itself; it is over seven times as large as England. It has h coast line of about (iiO miles, and though few of the ports are accessible to ocean-going vessels, DaT-es-Salaam, tbe "Harbour of Peace'' which has a narrow entrance through a palm grove, has be-:n developed on modern lines. This country is rich in minerals—iron. coal, lend, copper, salt, topaz, moonstones, and quartz crystals being found in large <|iiantitio3 ; whilst there are large vernment forests, covering an area of (530,000 acres.
