DEATH OF DR. A. A. MARTIN.

A Well-known New Zealand Doctor. London, September 1.9. j Dr A. A. Martin, of Palmcrston North, has died of wounds at the New Zealand Stationary Hospital in France. [The news of the death of Dr Martin will be received with sincere regret ,by the members of the profession in New Zealand. He was a son .of Mr Thomas Martin, who for many years was connected with railway service in Southhind and was a native of Otago. He received his early education at the Lawrence District High School, but he pursued his medical studies at Edinburgh University, and upon returning to New Zealand and commencing practice at I'nlmerston North, he sprang at once, by his use of modern methods and the exercise of his great skill, into the front rank !of surgeons in the Dominion. Upon the outbreak of wor lie proceeded to Kurope and joined the Ii.A.M.C., as a member of which he performed valuable work in Vrancc. His experiences are recorded in a book which he wrote, entitled " A Surgeon in Khaki." Itcturning to New Zenland last year he was appointed a member of the commission which investigated the conditions nf the Trentham Camp, and caused at that time a good deal of anxiety. He did not. however, remain for many months in the Dominion before experiencing again the call to active service, and he went back to the front, where his useful life has now been prematurely ended.]
