ALLEGED CONFIDENCE MEN.

NOTES IN STOCKINGS. William Jones, 48, described as a miner, and William AlcWorv, 42, described as a speculator, were remanded at How Street, London, lately, charged with loitering for the supposed purpose oi committing a felony by the confidence tr.ck. U was said that they were 6een talking together in the Strand, and were arrested after Jones had pointed to and spoken to a man who appeared to lie from overseas. A "bank of engraving" note for £SO was found in one ot Jones' socks and a similar note for ±ls in one of Alcßory'g socks. .VLr Charles Alfred Hayer, staying at the Waldorf Hotel, said he was on a visit from Nairobi, East Africa. While he was looking in a Strand shop window on -May 24 Jones spoke to him, describing himself as a farmer from Americ*. They walked to Hyde Park, where Jones disappeared while witness stopped to talk to friends. He next saw Jones in the Strand. He had never met Mcßory. Jones told the magistrate (Mr Hopkins) that he had never seen Mcßory before that morning. The magistrate: Uo you mean to say that two perfect strangers have each got a bank of engraving note in their stockings? What shall I be told next?
