J A privato letter from the United States s-ays tHat the captain of the California (Captain Lord) has been dismissed from the service, an d that Captain Rostroim, of the Oarpathia, has been covered with honours, be- ; aides being presented with £IO,OOO ' in cash and several loving cups. He was also awarded the Congressional medal. This honour is only given by special Act of Congress, and Captain Rostrow is the seventh man in tlio history of (America to receive the medal. Aldmiral Dewey did noi ejet it. (Captain Lord, it will 'be recalled, did not respond to the Titanic's distress signals.),,
