GOLF CLUB.

OPENING OF CLU'B-EOUSK For some time the Golf Club has laboured under the inconvenience of being without a club-house, and t was recently decided to purchase a building and erect same on the links. The building has now been erected, and the formal opening of the club-house took place on Wednesday, 4th. The wrathi'i was perfect, and there imut have been some fifty «jembers on the links to do honour to the occasion. At the termination of the mixed foiirscmo match afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies, and tho Club's president, Mr Moore, then opened the club-house. He referred to five great convenience and pleasure which a club house would afford, and members having paid for it out of their subscriptions could look on it as their own home. They would be glad to see present Sr T. Darton (an expresident) who had always been, as his father before him, a generous friend to the club. 'He would have liKed to see their old friend Mr D. Corrigan, who had been a most enthusiastic worker for the' Clulb, also present. Ho thought members should specially appreciate tho services of Mr J. Smyth, who had gone to a great amount oi trouble in makin,™ the arrangements for the erection of the building, and in making great imimprovements to the links. He had much pleasure in declaring the clubhouse opened.

Tho club-house is a substantial building of wood, anc; now that it has been painted looks wry neat. It is supplied within wit* lockers for thmembers' clubs and with other usual fittings, and should bo a great convenience to members.

The mixed foursome provider! a close finish, no less than three pairs, A. Blair and Mrs J. B. Thompson, Sinclair and Miss Hughes, and Mrs Darton and Miss Vivian tieing with a net score of 53' for first place. These will require to bo played off at an early date
