LIBERAL LEADERSHIP.
SIB JOSEPH WARD TO BE ELECTED. WELLINGTON, August 8. Though not decisively settled by resolution, the Leadership of the Liberal party is now a foregone conclusion. Su- Joseph Ward will on Friday, the earliest date on which a meeting of the P ai 'ty tun be convened with the. Hon. T. Mackenzie- in attendance, be asked to take the responsible post, and he will 'accept, though it is understood that such a decision will oause sevei-al members hitherto counted with the Opposition to give Mr Massey general support. The majority of the Liberals have come to the conclusion that the longer the Leadership question is delayed the greater is the danger of their force suffering from disintegration, so that even if an early decision nxans some loss of strength, it will in (he lie; run be best.
