CONCERT AT TUAPEKA WEST.

(Correspondent.) The annual concert in aid of the Tuapeka West School funds was held r-n the 26th July when, despite the fact that the night was a bois-torous one and the roads dirty, there was an excellent attendance, nuary conning from long, distances to be present. Mr George Smith presided, and in h s capacity kept things going with a swing from start to finish. The programme was a long ono and from a musical point ri view one of the best and 'brightest that it has been the pleasure of the people of the district to listen to for a long time. In addition to the contributions by the adults a number of items were given by the pupils <-f the school who each and all acquitted themselves in a manner alike creditable to themselves and their, teacher. Following is tho full programme given—Glee " The Gipsies' Chorus," Choir ; song, "Good Company," G. Swan (.encore: "Twenty Thousand Leagues ") ; recitation, " Alter Vaoaition," Master Willie Smith j song, " Whero the Bee Sucl's," Miss Laura Browne; dialogue, " The S-iek Doll," three pupils ; song, " The Man with the Ladda' and the Hose," Mr Hayman (encore: " Joan, from Aberdeen ") ; song, "My Ain Folk," Muss Jessie Swan (encore; " Roses ") ; recitation, " Six Times Nine," Ruby Hall; glee, " Ring tho Bell, Watchman," the Choir ; cornet solo, "In Happy Woments," Mr Percy Browne (encored) ; exercises, three pupils ; song, " The King's Own," Mr J. K. Smith (encore : "The Veteran's Song '•'•) ; duet " Very Suspicious," Mr and Miss Swan ; dialogue, <" Bobby Barefoot," Masters G. Smith and G. lYoung; song, "My Treasure," Miss Browne (encore: " Janet's Choice") ; srng, " Hushees" Miss Swan ; shadow pantomime (four acts), 1, Dentistry Extraordinary, by Dr Hackemout ; 2, Yrigglc, the barber ;3, the Haunted House ;4, We won't go Home till Morning. This latter item was a pronounced success, the various performers acquitting themselves in first-class style, tho audience being delighted. At the conclusion of tho programme the chairman thanked the performers for their valuable assistance, especially -mentioning those from' a distance : Miss L. Browi'je and Mr l>. Brffwno (Lawrence), Miss Swan (Mosgiel), and Mr A. Hayman (Tuapeka Mouth). He also thanked the ladies ai the district for providing refreshments and Mrs C. Stephens for the use of her piano. Refreshments were then generously dispensed, and when theso had been done full justice to the lloor was cleared and a few hours' dancing indulged in by the yminger people, excellent music bein<r supplied by Messrs R. Hall and G. Swan.
