Rifle Shooting.
TILE BLSLEY MEETING. LONDON, July 14. At Bisley, shooting in the Kind's Norton /competition, Corporal Mortimer, of Canada, and Henry, of Lister both scored 73 out of a possible of 75 at 12IK) yards, 'being the world's record. -Mortimer won in the shootoff. (This competition is one oi the special match ritle series, and the ammunition used is made by the King's Xorton firm. It has a tremendous velocity, and a pointed bullet is used, thus reducing the trajectory considerably. The sharp bullet cuts the air, and the windage allowance is reduced veiv materially. The ammunition cannot lw used in the ordinary service ride on account of the high bursting pressure and strain on th<i breech action. The match rides used in the competition arc made specially to bear the great pressure. It us doubtful if this class of ammunition will ever b;' used on service, and its cost is at least doable that of the ordinary make of cartridge.
