TUAPEKA MOUTH NOTES

The annual harvest home ball was held in the school-house on Friday, 16th inst., when there was a good attendance. Opportunity was taken at this function to make a presentation to Mr J. G. Paterson, who has left this district and is now residing in Balclutlia. Owing, however, to Mr Patersom being unable to attend through illness, the Dresentation was made in a formal manner. Mr Jno. E. Keenan, presided, and said that while they • regretted tihe state of Mr Paterson's health and his unavoided absence from their midfit that evening, he felt sure that everyone present hoped for his speedy recovery. "While Mr Paterson was in the district he had taken a great interest in all pub-

lie affairs, acting (for an indefinite period) as secretary of school, sports, and cemetery committee. He had much pleasure^, on behalf of the people of the district, in forwarding to Mr Paterson a handsome oak chiming clock, as a slight token of the esteem in which he was held, and also as a slight recownitLon of his valuable services in the district.

Mr Joseph Paterson, on behalf of his brother suitably responded and thanked those present for the valuable present, and also for their kind remarks about his brother.

Dancing was then begun, and was kept up till an early hour. ' At intervals throwg|hout the evening songs were given by Messrs A. Smith, W. Turnbull, Jno. McGowan. and a recitation from Mr P. O.Brien which was much appreciated. The proceedings closed witlh the singing of " For tliev are jolly good fellows."
