i (To The Editor.) ] Sir, —ln justice to myself and all Tuapeka County ratepayers I think that lam justified in asking you to publish a copy of my letter, dated 9th September, 1908, to .the Tuapeka County Council so that the public will be the better able to understand the nature of my resignation and decide for themselves if I was um*easonable.—Yours respectfully. Gentlemen, —Some six months ago your Council 'decided to build a punt house here at an early date as the tittached letter will show, but up to the present time nothing has been done. I find the 10 x 12 tent supplied to me on the 4th March, 1908, insufficient as a permanent residence for my wife and family, and on principle I beg leave to give notice of resignation, allowing your Council its own time to consider my letter or to appoint a puntman in my place. I have good reason to think that your mexnber for Browns Riding is prejudiced against me through political and party reasons, and is using his influence as a Councillor in an underhand Way where I am concerned and, consequently, I am not getting justice.— Yours respectfully, * JAMES HEWITT. Sept. 9th, 1908. The attached letter dated 26th May, 1908 was from the County Engineer to say that he had been instructed by the County Chairman to write me to see if I would be agreeable to build the house in my spare time, free of any extra pay beyond my wages as puntman.* the Council to find all material and supply the labour of a carpenter for one 'week, and asking an early reply so that he could put the work on hand at the earliest moment.
