LAND SETTLEMENT IN CENTRAL OTAGO
In connection with the successful settlement of the Blackstone, Home Hills, and Lauder runs Mr J. J. Ramsay received the following wire from the Hon. Mr M'Nab last Wednesday :—": — " Delighted to hear that 946 people applied for Blackstone, Home Hills, and Lauder runs. It is gratifying to myself, and I feel sure to you also, that the decision come to at St. Bathans has produced such satisfactory results. — Robert M'Nab." Mr Ramsay replied as follows : — " Reciprocate kind congratulations. Only drawback Board successful blocking small men Home Hills by surveying unwieldy, expensive sections. Want all manless land opened suitably for landless men. To-day's applications striking commentary on the Opposition cry of the people being afraid of leaseholds. Three hundred and one applied for twenty-one years' . lease for one section Lauder."
