WAIPORI SPINSTERS' SOCIAL.
The Waipori spinsters gave a social and dance on the sth inst. in the Waipori Public Hall. There was a large number of guests, who enjoyed the evening thoroughly. The grand march at 8 sharp started proceedings, after which the various dances and items followed each other in rapid succession. Miss Annie D unbar gave a creditable rendering of the song " Chime again, beautiful bells " ; Mr James ' Cotton, "On the road to Mandalay," was in good voice ; Mr Geo. Russell in " Everybody's loved by someone " gave a. pleasing item ; Miss Minnie Todd» " I am so toed waiting for yon," was in excellent voice ; Mr John Fraser, jun., displayed a voice of considerable vigor and volume in " Ring down the curtain " ; Mr Chas. Nicholson sang "I'm wearin' my heart away for you " ; while Messrs J. Gare, jun., and T. Allen supplied a humorous element that pleased the younger folk. The hall was very tastefully decked out with green stuff and daffodils, and no effort was spared on the part of the ladies to make the affair a thorough success. Each lady brought something to the refreshment table, and there was no lack of tasty edibles, which were none the less appreciated when it was understood that .each lady cooked her own contribution. Miss Minnie Todd presided at the piano, while Messrs T. Ryan and Frank Russell officiated with the violin. Mr W. Caw made an efficient M.C., and dancing was kept up till 4 a.m., when all dispersed* pleased with the evening's enjoyment, the ladies first being thanked for their hospitality. We will not refer to the dressing ; nothing could make the Waipori ladies more charming than they naturally are.
