WAITAHUNA.
THE CROPS AND THE WEA.THER.
Our Waitahuna correspondent writes : It is to be feared that tbe rains we have been favored with this week have arrived 100 late to be of any material benefit to the growing cropc. More especially is th's f.lt in the case of the turnip crops. The intensely hot weather that has prevailed this last week or two has so complftely absorbed all moisture from the land, so that the few showers of rain that have fullen have hardly been been felt. The winds following so shortly after completely dried up what litlle benefit might have been "derivid from them. There will certainly be a great falling off in the grain crops in this district this season, both in quantity and quality. There will also be a great shortage in the winter feed for cattle, and great fear 3 are entertained that the cattle will suffer severely during the forthcoming winter from this cause.
