TESTIMONIAL TO MR C. C. RAWLINS.
A movement is on foot in the Tuapeka electorate for tbe purpose of presenting an address and testimonial to Mr Chas. C. Eawlins. There id, we understand, no political significance in the movement. It is not intended iv any sense as a political demonstration, or as an expression of political feeling, but rather as a means cf enabling the electors throughout the constituency to express in a tangible manner their appreciation of the straightforward manner in which Mr Eawlins conducted his election campaign, and particularly for the digaih'ed and generous manner with which he carried himself at the close of the contest, and that, too, under circumstances of au exceedingly trying nature. Nor on these points can there certainly be the slightest difference of opiuioo. He did bear himself with a dignity and manliness and a generosity of feeling and sentiment that have commanded the admiration and regard of people of every shade of political thought in the electorate. The movement, we understand, is meeting with enthusiastic support throughout tb.B fntire electorate. A number of gentlemen in Lawrence have formed themselves into a central committee, and so far their efforts have been attended with the most encouraging success.
