FOOTBALL,

LAWRENCE y. WAITAHUNA. (By Forwabd.) A football match was played between the above clubs on the Waitahuna ground on Wednesday afternoon, when the weather was perfect, not a breath of wind blowing. Considerable interest was taken in the game, and the teams were very evenly matched. The personnel of the Waitahuna team has been considerably altered since last year; it now includes three well-known ex-Dunedin players, which has had the effect of strengthening their back division. Their forwards, too, are a strong, sturdy lot, and were more than a match for the visitors. Lawrence should learn to heel out, and thus feed their back 3 more than they do ; for it was a noticeable fact that in almost every scrum formed, Waitahuna invariably got the ball. The game was played in two half -hour spells, and resulted in a win for Lawrence by 7 points to nil. In the first spell Airey potted a goal, and in the second T. Sing Lee scored a try, which was not improved. R. M'Ara and J. Airey captained their respective teams; Messrs F. Ellis and A. Arthur acted as touch judges ; and Mr F. Vivian had control of the game.
