TRAPPING A BURGLAR.
Thia is 'he story of how a brave wemtn trapped a burglar, told by herself : 11 One evt-niDg lant week I waa prevented going out as I intended to. I decided to make oiramela, aud sent cook out fjr the ingredients. I was in tho pantry while «he was gone, and I heard someone sneak, into the kitchen. I went out, and oh there was the worst looking man you ever saw." "A burglar!" "Yes; I saw that at a glance, but I thought of James, and stood firm'" " You plucky dt-ar !" "Yes. 'You are the gus man, aren't you ?' I said ia a queer voice. He started out without replying, but I got between him and the door and Buid, ' All right, just go in there.' And though he was all of a tremor, and only too anxious to got away I drove him into the pantry, and looked the door on the outside. Then I fell in a dead faint." " Mercy ! Won't the police give you a medal or something ?" " 1 think not. When I reoovered, cook was bendiDg over me. and I told her in a whisper what h%d happened, and begged her to go for the police while I kept guard. She went fast enough, you may be sure." 11 Well." " She came back wi<h two big policeman and James, who she had mat at the corner. The policemen said it must be ' LongHaired Mike,'for whom they were looking. James said 'My brave little wife P' They opened the pantry door while cook and I jumped upon chairs to be out of ballet ranga. When cook saw the man — she went into hysterics." " Such women have no courage." "It wasn't that. He was her beat young man. You see, she thought I would be out, so she had deoided to have a luncheon party of her own— but he came while she waa at the grocery, and I mistook him for a burglar." " And didn't you get any reward?" " No, James was horrid about it. The police went away laughing, and cook gave me warning when she came ont of her hysterics.
