Mr Herbert Gladstone declares that it is the intention of his father to hold aloof fromj the election struggle. Three non-commissioned officers and ten Hussars have bean shot at Prozemyst (Gallicia) on a charge of murdering an I Austrian sergeant. Eleven others concerned in the crime have been sentenced to pena j servitude for life. The Khedive of Egypt has arranged for a visit to the Sultan at Constantinople to obtain the latter's support against members of the former's family who are alleged to be plotting against him. Mr Gladstone has wired from Kiel that the statement regarding his hostile attitude towards the Government is untrue. " The Times,' however, again asserts that he has entirely withdrawn his support frouvthe Government. Beerbohm, in his circular, says that it is probable that the English wheat crop will be one of the smallest on record. France, Hungary, and Eussia, he says, will have a moderate yield, and that the decline in the market is due to the enormous- shipments osthe last two months. There I^, diys.
