The " Daily Telegraph " has opened a shilling testimonial to Dr W. G.\ Grace, heading the same with 2000 shilling subscriptions. Many large public subscriptions have been received, and the paper urges Australian colonists to subscribe. A mjarriage has been arranged between the Duke of Argyle and Miss M'Neill, one of the maids of honour. Terrible floods have been experienced in Northern Hungary, and many persons have been drowned. A waterspout destroyed Kobersdorf, killing 100 people, A waterspout burst and swept the Wurtemburg (Germany) district, causing a considerable amount of damage. Thirty-two people were drowned in the floods, and a number of others are missing. The governor of the gaol denies that Oscar Wilde is insane At first the convict was k;ept at the treadmill for six hours a day, but as his health is not good he is at present engaged in the lighter occupation of picking oakum. The " Meat Trade Journal," referring to the price obtained for sheep by the Morayshire, states that when sheep worth 15s in the colonies realised 54s in the Home market it established a record prioe, and this result is certain to encourage the live stock export trade in the colonies. The German gunboat Itlis bombarded and silenoed the Chinese fort at Hove because the authorities prevented the departure of a steamer carrying Fang Ching, president of the Formosa Eepublic. The steamer afterwards proceeded on her way to the town of Taipehafa, in Formosa, where the powder magazine was set fire to and exploded, killing 90 persons.
